The Hyundai Kona is all-new for 2024, and that includes the electric model we had a chance to briefly test out earlier this year. Pricing on the EV wasn’t finalized at the time, but now we know it’s set to launch at $34,010.

That’s for the SE, one of three trims, and includes Hyundai’s $1,335 delivery charge. The bigger news here is that this actually represents a price decrease of $875, as the 2023 Kona Electric SE starts at $34,885 with delivery. While all three trims are front-wheel drive, the SE comes packaged with a 99 kW electric motor rated at 133 horsepower, powered by a 48.6 kWh battery.

The next two trims, the SEL and Limited, both receive a higher capacity 64.8 kWh battery and a more potent 150 kW motor, bumping performance up to 201 horsepower. Of course, this bump in performance numbers (along with additional features) also means a bump in other pricing numbers. The SEL sits in the middle, starting at $38,010, and the Limited tops the range at $42,380. Still, this represents further cost savings when compared to the outgoing model, the SEL now costing $625 less and the Limited costing $505 less. Unfortunately, the Kona Electric is not eligible for the $7500 Federal Tax Credit, but these savings are at least some form of consolation. Considering how the new Kona Electric has grown in size, improved in style and packaged more features, it’s hard to complain.

We had a chance to sample the all-new Kona in our home state of Maryland earlier this year, traversing the roads in and out of Charm City with ease. We’re looking forward to getting back behind the wheel, including some seat time in the new Electric, when they start arriving at dealerships soon.
