Jeep Unveils All-Electric Models; Recon, Wagoneer S, Avenger
Jeep Recon Jeep has unveiled their plans for an electrified future, including three new battery-electric models, as part of their 4xe Day celebrations. The Jeep Recon is one of the first all-new electric SUVs set to launch in North America, slated for a 2024 production. It debuted today alongside the all-electric Wagoneer and the Jeep Avenger, a European model set to launch early next year. Jeep Recon The Jeep Recon is a zero-emission design built to Jeep’s “trail-rated” standards, available exclusively as a battery electric vehicle (BEV). The Recon will utilize the Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management system and e-locking axle technology for proper off-road performance. In Wrangler fashion, the Recon’s doors and glass can be removed, and the top is retractable, providing that “open-air freedom” Jeeps are known for. For good measure, it’s outfitted with underbody protection, tow hooks and off-road tires. Reservations for the Recon will open up early 2023. Jeep Wagoneer S The all-electric Wagoneer, code-named “Wagoneer S,” is both an electrification move and an expansion into the premium SUV segment. It will be marketed globally, offered exclusively as a BEV, and is looking at a targeted 400 miles of range. Jeep was kind enough to provide a little more performance insight: 600 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of around 3.5-seconds. Like the Recon, reservations open up early next year, and production is slated for 2024 in North America. Jeep Avenger The Recon and Wagoneer may both serve as a sort of North American pathfinder for Jeep’s electrification plans, but they will not be the first fully electric Jeep SUVs; that honor goes to the Avenger, another BEV that will launch in Europe and other markets, like Japan and South Korea. Once more, exact powertrain details are yet to be confirmed, but Jeep claims a targeted range of 400 kilometers (249 miles). The Avenger is currently slated for an October 17th debut at the Paris Motor Show. Each of these models serve as stepping stones for Jeep, planning to introduce four all-electric SUVs and offer electrified models across their entire US portfolio by 2025. The goal: 50 percent of US and 100 percent of European sales being those of battery-electric models by 2030.
