VW ending its push for diesel dominance
September 2, 2016
Fewer diesel powered Volkswagens will be on the road in the United States.
Car and Driver is reporting that VW is ending its push of diesel powered vehicles in North America. Car and Driver quotes Hinrich J. Woebcken, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America as saying, “We don’t foresee that the strength of diesel will come back for this market.”
Woebcken made clear his comments focus on the VW brand, and the future of their TDI "clean diesel" engines. He went on to say, "We will still offer diesel in specific products and packages where it seems appropriate...but we are looking to a future of electric mobility."
