Volkswagen has introduced a new line of rugged Basecamp accessories for the Atlas models, based on the 2019 Atlas Basecamp concept vehicle.  Available a la carte or as a complete styling package, the Basecamp line creates a more rugged look for the Atlas with custom body cladding and an extensive catalogue of accessory options that cater to customer desires for distinctive styling and functionality.  The accessory line also includes a production version of the unique 17-inch Traverse MX wheels produced specifically for Volkswagen by fifteen52. These wheels were first seen on the Atlas Basecamp concept vehicle and are being offered in two colors; frosted graphite and radiant silver.  Produced by Air Design, the Basecamp styling package for Atlas models includes a two-tone satin silver and textured anthracite front bumper guard, textured anthracite fender flares with integrated splash guards, satin silver side door rocker panels, and satin silver rear valance with trailer hitch access. This kit comes with exclusive front quarter-panel-mounted Basecamp badges that are not offered separately. The styling package is not recommended for models equipped without a trailer hitch and not compatible with R-Line trims.

The Basecamp Concept, first shown at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, is the brainchild of Alex Earle, Exterior Design Manager at the Volkswagen Design Center California and avid cyclist. “The Basecamp Concept brings a go-anywhere attitude to the brand that is already synonymous with road-trip culture,” said Earle. “Whether you are taking on a series of challenging single-tracks with your favorite mountain bike or enjoying a relaxing evening under the night sky, the versatility of the Basecamp Concept provides ideal mobile solutions for just about any adventure.”
