September 1, 2011
Toyota Motorsport GmbH has set a new electric vehicle lap record at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany. Jochen Krumbach drove the 100% electric powertrain TMG EV P001 around the track in 7 minutes 47.794 seconds to obliterate the previous 9-minute 1.338-second record. To set such an impressive time, the TMG used two electric motors, with a top speed of 161.5 miles per hour and 590 lb/ft of torque, to power through the immense elevation changes and lengthy flat-out straights.
