Toyota Avalon XSE Hybrid; First-Ever Nightshade Edition
The Toyota Avalon XSE Hybrid sedan has gained a new trim for the 2022 model year: the Nightshade Edition. Toyota has been adding the Nightshade package to a variety of their vehicles for the 2022 model year, the Avalon XSE Hybrid being the next to receive the blackout treatment. XSE Hybrids equipped with this package will start at $41,725 following destination charges.
One of six available configurations across the Avalon’s V6 and Hybrid powertrains, the Nightshade adds a black grille, mirror caps, rear spoiler and badging. Special black-painted 19-inch wheels, window trim and door handles complete the side profile. The XSE Hybrid Nightshade Edition can be finished in either Midnight Black Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl or Celestial Silver Metallic. The Avalon Hybrid has a manufacturer-projected fuel economy of 43 mpg city, 44 mpg highway and 44 mpg combined. The system is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor setup. One motor works in tandem with the engine; the second motor works with the first motor to charge the hybrid battery pack.
Together, total hybrid output is 215 horsepower. The XSE Hybrid Nightshade will give drivers the ability to “shift” the electronically controlled CVT transmission via paddle shifters, mimicking a six-speed automatic transmission. The XSE Hybrid Nightshade will come standard with power tilt/slide moonroof with sliding sunshade, the Toyota Audio Plus 8-speaker sound system, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa, and additional connectivity technology. All Avalons come with the Toyota Safety System 2.5+, boasting Pre-Collision warning systems, radar cruise control, automatic high beams, road sign assist, lane tracing and departure assist, and more.
