Ford is making a big investment to make more of their biggest SUVs. The company has announced a new $25 million investment at the Kentucky Truck Plant to speed up manufacturing of the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition. The upgrades include 400 new robots. Ford has boosted production targets for full-size SUVs by about 25 percent since the all-new vehicles hit the market last fall.
Big trucks are also part of the strategy at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The company is investing more than $1 billion to modernize the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan. The changes are being made to produce the next-generation Ram Heavy Duty truck. The company plans to move production from Saltillo, Mexico to Michigan in 2020. FCA says that will create 2,500 new jobs. The Mexico plant will produce future commercial vehicles for global markets.
