Two more companies are becoming partners in the pursuit of developing self-driving cars. Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv have announced they’re forming an Autonomous Driving Joint Venture. The deal will focus on designing, developing and commercializing SAE Level 4 and 5 autonomous technologies.
Both companies have a 50-50 share in the $4 billion venture. As a global technology company, Aptiv will provide the expertise in autonomous driving technology. Hyundai’s contribution includes vehicle engineering services and R&D resources. They plan to begin testing fully driverless systems in 2020. They hope that will lead to a production-ready autonomous driving platform for robotaxis, fleet operators, and automotive manufacturers in 2022.
