PSA Groupe, which owns car makers including Peugeot, is venturing back into the U.S. market. The French company has launched a new service called Free2Move. The app allows users to compare the location, characteristics and costs of mobility services. PSA says the service has expanded to 7 countries in Europe. It’s now available in Seattle, but the company plans to roll it out in other U.S. cities. The last time Peugeot produced cars for the U.S. market was 1991. PSA plans to return to the U.S. market in three stages that could eventually include vehicles.
Ford is increasing its commitment to electric vehicles. President and CEO Jim Hackett told investors Ford is reducing the amount of money it spends on internal combustion engines by one-third and shifting those funds to electrification. That’s on top of the $4.5 billion investment they’ve already announced. Ford has said they plan to build 13 new vehicles with electric motors during the next five years.
Land Rover is taking a leap forward with electric technology. The 2019 Range Rover Sport will offer the company’s first plug-in hybrid. The gas and electric power train will produce a total system output of 398hp and 472-lb. ft. or torque. The company says electric-only range will be 31 miles. Land Rover says it will be available in the U.S. in the summer of 2018.
