No one knows more about matching high-performance with powertrain electrification than Porsche. Indeed, their latest Cayenne E-Hybrid is actually their second swing at providing a large and powerful crossover utility with plug-in credentials. Performance at every level is improved.
The latest Cayenne PHEV combines a 3.0-liter single-turbo V6 engine, producing 335 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, with a more powerful electric motor rated at 134 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The result is that total system output rises from 416 to 455 horsepower. Porsche estimates 0-60 MPH acceleration at a rapid 4.7 seconds. In addition, a 30% larger battery pack allows for up to 27 miles of electric-only driving, almost double the EV range of the previous model. It will be available early next year at a price of just under $80,000.
