Electric cars are generating lots of excitement at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

Volkswagen revealed the I.D. electric car. The concept car will become the first Volkswagen built off the Modular Electric Drive platform.  The company says it will come with a range of up to 373 miles on a single battery charge.  The Volkwagen I.D. is scheduled to go on sale in 2020.



Paris is the world premiere of the Mercedes Generation EQ. The exterior design of this crossover makes it clear this is an electric vehicle. Two electric motors can give it a 310 mile range. 




We’re also seeing the Mercedes AMG GT Roadster.  There will be two choices for the open top driving experience… 469 horsepower or 550 horsepower.

 


The electric revolution continues with the world primiere of the smart fortwo coupe electric drive.  A cabrio is also on the way.  The company says a fully charged battery will go for 99-miles.

 


BMW is also thinking electric with the latest variant of the BMW i3.  The new 94 Ah battery increases the range to 186 miles from the previous 118 miles.

 


Paris also marks the world premiere of the BMW X2.  The concept is their newest entry in the compact segment.

 


Audi is giving Paris a lot to look at.  The new second generation Q5 crossover is here. 




The international audience is also seeing the new Audi RS 3 for the first time. The motorsport feel of this fast sedan comes in part from the 400 horsepower engine.   

 


Audi also brought the new A5 and S5 Sportbacks along to Paris.  The company says their new engines are 17-percent more powerful and 22-percent more fuel efficient.

 


Infiniti is certainly looking toward the future.  The Paris Motor show included the European debut of the Infiniti QX Sport.  The concept’s global reveal was in the spring, but there have been some design upgrades since then.

 

 
Inifiniti is also giving the world a glimpse of its new Variable Compression Turbo engine.

 


Luxury car maker Lexus came to the Paris thinking about American customers… especially in the fast growing entry level luxury segment.  We’re seeing this Lexus UX.  It features the first design execution of the Kinetic Seat Concept.

 


Land Rover got a jump on the excitement leading up to the Paris Auto Show.  The British company revealed the new 5th generation Discovery ahead of the Paris show. This full-size SUV can seat 7 people. 


Paris is the place for the world premiere for Ferrari’s GTC4Lusso T.  This is Ferrari’s first V8 four-seater.



Ferrari is also unveiling a special logo to celebrate its 70th anniversary.  The logo will make its first appearance on the LaFerrari Aperta.

 


Honda also has its sights set on acceleration. The New Civic Type R Prototype is being unveiled in Paris.  It will be at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas in November.  That will make it the first-ever Honda-badged Type R in the U.S.

 


Speed is what Hyundai is thinking. The South Korean car company is showing the world the RN30.  This is the latest high performance concept for the company.



For drivers who are passionate but don’t need all that speed, Hyundai has unveiled the newest generation of their hot hatch the i30.

 


The Paris Motor Show is making it clear electric vehicles will certainly play a bigger role in the future.
