Nissan EVs, Corolla Hatchback & VW SUV
March 23, 2018
Nissan is sharing their vision for the future. The company plans to sell a million electrified vehicles a year by 2022. That includes either pure electric models or those with e-POWER powertrains. As part of the plan they anticipate developing eight new pure electric vehicles. The Nissan IMx Concept will serve as the inspiration for a global crossover electric vehicle. Nissan also plans for 20 models in 20 markets to be equipped with autonomous driving technology.
We’re just a few days away from press days at the New York International Auto Show. The all-new 2019 Corolla Hatchback will make its debut in the Big Apple. Underneath is the new TNGA Platform with Sport-Tuned Suspension. Power comes from the new TNGA 2.0-liter Four-Cylinder. No word on horsepower or torque yet. It’s matched with either a Dynamic-Shift CVT or a six-speed manual transmission. Sales begin this summer.
Volkswagen is serious about SUVs. They’ve unveiled the third generation Touareg in Beijing. China is the brand’s largest market, followed by Europe and Russia. Volkswagen has sold nearly one million of the previous two generations of the Touareg. European drivers will have two V6 diesels to choose from. Some markets will have a V6 gas version as well. A new plug-in hybrid is planned for China. No word yet on the European launch of the new Volkswagen Touareg.
