Americans love their trucks, and no truck is loved more than the Ford F-150, the best-selling pickup in the land for 43 straight years. Now, for 2021, Ford intends to extend that winning streak with a new generation F-Series with both evolutionary and revolutionary new features. The exterior is clearly evolutionary, with an even bolder stance and increased use of bracketed LED lighting around very recognizable grilles. The interior supports even more work and play with a giant 12-inch infotainment touch screen dominating the center of the dash on most trims, and an optional front Work Surface for stable laptop and productivity use. The King Ranch goes much further with a fold flat Max Recline front passenger seat that looks a lot like a sleeper seat in an airline’s first-class cabin. The new F-150 also stakes its claim to the most power in its class with the optional 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid V6. The powertrain, with its 10-speed automatic transmission, combines a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with a 35-kilowatt electric motor. As the only pickup with a full hybrid powertrain, Ford is targeting a 700-mile highway range. Tow rating will also be over 12,000 pounds. If a full hybrid pickup truck is not revolutionary enough, both gasoline and hybrid powertrains also support Pro Power Onboard which allows for generator level of electricity for job sites and campsites. Gas engine owners can opt for 2.0 kilowatts of output, more than enough for an 8-inch circular saw or mini fridge, while the hybrid comes standard with a 2.4-kilowatt rating, upgradable to 7.2 kilowatts of electrical power. All this power is in addition to an expanded list of creature comforts and safety features. The all-new 2021 Ford F-150 arrives in dealers this fall.
