MotorWeek Loses A Giving Friend
We're sorry to report that Lenny B. Robinson, the 51-year-old Maryland man known as the “Baltimore Batman,” was killed Sunday night. Robinson who drove a custom-made Batmobile and dressed as the Caped Crusader to visit sick children in area hospitals, was fatally struck by a car on Interstate 70 Sunday night near Hagerstown, Md., after his Batmobile broke down. After having some engine trouble, Robinson stopped “partially in the fast lane,” according to Maryland State Police. Robinson was checking the engine when the Batmobile was struck by another vehicle. Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed. The driver of the car wasn’t injured.
The staff here at MotorWeek had the pleasure of working with Lenny while filming a recent FYI segment with our producer/reporter Yolanda Vazquez titled “The Caped Crusader.” We would like to send our condolences to Robinson’s family and to all of the thousands of children and adults Lenny helped and consoled with his boundless humor and charm. He will truly be missed.
