The 2023 Kia Sorento PHEV is returning for its second year, now streamlined into one well-appointed trim.

The Sorento PHEV will only be offered in the SX-P trim, $49,890 before destination– a $1,800 MSRP increase over last year’s SX-P. With the entry-level SX trim now gone, the 2023 Sorento PHEV will start at $51,185 once you include Kia’s destination charge.

For that price of admission, you receive a well-appointed vehicle. New equipment includes retractable rear door sunshades, a 115-volt inverter for plugging in household items (like a laptop charger), and standard Homelink. Returning is a standard suite of safety and convenience features, including navigation based smart cruise control.

The Sorento PHEV is driven by a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four and an electric motor, connected to a 14kWh battery. Combined, the system displaces 261 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, channeled to the standard all-wheel drive system through a six-speed automatic transmission. The Sorento is EPA-estimated to provide 32 miles of all-electric range.

We had a chance to drive the 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV and found it an enjoyable experience all around. Without any major powertrain changes, we suspect the 2023 to be equally impressive.
