Hyundai has been in the U.S. market for quite some time now offering a variety of cars and utilities.  Now they’re adding a truck to the line-up.  The Korean company has announced they will build the Hyundai Santa Cruz. We first saw the Crossover Truck concept at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.  Hyundai says it’s designed for those who need “a compact utility vehicle, but need the day-to-day versatility of an open bed.”

Hyundai’s new truck will be built at their automotive assembly plant in Montgomery.  The company began production at the facility in 2005.  They already build the Santa Fe, Sonata and Elantra at the Alabama plant.  Adding to the Santa Cruz to the assembly line will require a $410 million expansion project.  They’ll need more space for stamping, welding and processing parts.  That means production of the Santa Cruz is expected to begin in 2021.
