Volkswagen has introduced the 2024 Atlas Peak Edition at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), a more rugged approach to the recently refreshed model.

While the supplied pictures give it away, that short description would likely fill your mind with the images of extra body cladding, roof rails, and special wheels wrapped by all-terrain tires– and you’d be right. That’s exactly what the Peak Edition is, inspired by the Basecamp Concept flaunted in 2019.

To be more precise, the Peak Edition is spearheaded by a more rugged front fascia and underbody cladding, finished in silver. There are plenty of dark design elements, like the gloss-black “X” across the lower fascia taken from the Atlas Cross Sport. The grille is also blacked out, barring two chrome strips and the illuminated logo, and the rear end has a special black and silver diffuser met by chrome exhaust bezels.

The side profile gives more credence to the overlanding vibes, as the 18-inch black alloy wheels and 255/60 all-terrain rubber work in tandem with the unique side sills and various black accents to contrast the painted bodywork. This is also where the special orange and chrome “Peak Edition” badge is mounted. Speaking of paint, this trim receives two exclusive colors: Avocado Green and Pure Grey.

The interior features its own look with black leatherette paired to various gray accents and black metallic door inserts; but, beyond that and a few various pieces, it’s largely untouched. Nothing regarding the powertrain was mentioned, so we suspect that too is left untouched. The refreshed Atlas has been slimmed down to a sole powertrain: A turbocharged 4-cylinder paired to an 8-speed automatic. Although front-wheel drive is Atlas-standard, we assume the Peak Edition will come standard with the available all-wheel drive, putting down 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

More details about the Peak Edition will presumably surface as we get closer to the launch of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport this summer.
