The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company unveiled two concept tires at the recent Geneva International Motor Show. Created by Goodyear’s Innovation Center engineers, these two tires, the BHO3 and the TripleTube, showcase innovative thinking in tire technology.  These groundbreaking concept tires could help shape the future of how people drive.

According to Goodyear the futuristic technologies stretch the imagination and provide a glimpse of what practical innovations may be on the horizon. The BHO3 concept offers the possibility of charging the batteries of electric cars by transforming the heat generated from the rolling tire into electrical energy.  Materials in the tire capture and transform energy created by heat when the tire flexes as it rolls during normal driving conditions. The materials used would optimize the tire’s electricity generation capabilities as well as its rolling resistance.

The TripleTube concept contains three tubes that adjust tire inflation pressure in response to changing road conditions, creating new levels of performance and versatility. The tubes are located beneath the tread near the inboard and outboard shoulders as well as the center of the tire. The tire has an internal pump that moves air from the main air chamber to the three individual tubes. The tire will automatically adjust to three different positions based on road conditions.

There is currently no release date set for either tire. For more information about Goodyear or any of its products, go to
