Car makers could get a bit of a break from government regulators. Reuters is reporting the U.S. Transportation Department could adopt lower fuel efficiency standards through 2025. In March we told you regulators began taking another look at fuel economy standards finalized during the previous administration. They’re reviewing rules for 2022 through 2025 model years. Reuters says U.S. regulators are working on a new environmental impact statement.
There will be a change at the top at BMW Group Region Americas. Ludwig Willisch has announced he will retire. Willisch spent 21-years with BMW Group, the past 6 years at BMW of North America. His retirement is effective August 1, 2017. Bernhard Kuhnt will become Head of BMW Group Region Americas.
MINI is going electric. The BMW Group announced a new battery-electric version of their core MINI 3 door model. BMW says the electric drivetrain will be built in Germany, while the car will continue to be made in England. Production of the fully electric car begins in 2019.
