Ford’s F-150 Rattler: an Entry-Level Offroader
Ford has unveiled a new Rattler package for their F-150 pickups, offering an adventurous trim at an entry-level price.
The Rattler package will be available for the 2023 model year, and is to be based on the F-150 XL series. It will come configured with FX4 content for off-road excursions: skid plates, specially tuned shock absorbers, all-terrain tires and an electronic rear-locking differential. Rattlers also come programmed with a hill descent control feature.
“Our new F-150 Rattler offers aspiring adventurers an off-road option with expressive looks and capability in one package,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “This truck builds off the F-150 off-road legacy while allowing us to introduce new customers to the right blend of styling and value in the F-150 lineup.”
The exterior is denoted by bespoke parts and graphics; the most notable being the F-150 Rattler badging on the fender vents. They match up with the rattlesnake-inspired graphics adorning the bed, akin to the rear graphics F-150 Raptors and Tremors are outfitted with. The aforementioned off-road shocks are sheathed by painted 18-inch aluminum wheels, contributing to the Rattler’s sporty stance. A dual exhaust setup is said to not only mix up the appearance, but add more volume, too.
The exterior can be finished in eight colors: Oxford White, Avalanche, Iconic Silver, Carbonized Gray, Antimatter Blue, Stone Gray, Agate Black and Rapid Red TriCoat. The interior, however, is limited to one configuration: Onyx (black) seats with burnished bronze accents, matching a similar color scheme on the instrument panel.
Powertrain options are yet to be discussed; as of now, a 2022 F-150 XL SuperCab comes standard with a 3.3-liter V6, rated at 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Other engines include a 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost, a 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost, a 3.5-Liter PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6, and the well-known 5.0-liter V8. Transmissions are all 10-speed automatics.
Exact pricing is yet to be confirmed as well. That being said, Ford made it clear the Rattler would be a “distinctive, rugged, entry-level addition to its 2023 F-150 lineup.” As of now, a 2022 F-150 XL SuperCab with the 4X4 option prices out at $43,550 including destination and acquisition fees.
If we had to guess, the 2023 F-150 Rattler will price out somewhere in this ballpark. Stay tuned, as we’ll have more news and a confirmed MSRP as we near the Rattler’s launch this fall.
