Beginning in late 2019, a fleet of automated Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans will begin a pilot program in San Jose, California to study how highly and fully automated vehicles might be used to help meet future transportation needs, specifically in urban areas.  A selected user community in the San Carlos/Stevens Creek corridor of San Jose will have the opportunity to hail self-driving cars (monitored by safety drivers) from designated pick-up locations and be driven automatically to their destinations.  With this pilot program, Daimler and Bosch aim to improve the flow of traffic in cities, enhance road safety and boost the attractiveness of car sharing.
