Chrysler has recently announced they are expanding their recall for air bags made by Takata from two states to seven. The automaker is offering to replace passenger-side air bag inflators in the 2003 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups sold or registered in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, Saipan and the Virgin Islands. The pickups are among nine other models that were also recalled by Chrysler earlier this year, effecting cars and trucks purchased or registered in Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The additional recall is in response to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration informing Chrysler to widen the recall to include all vehicles with passenger side inflators. Chrysler was also instructed by the NHTSA to start notifying customers of the recall before December 19. Currently Chrysler is unaware of any accidents or related injuries involving the inflators.

Vehicle owners that are uncertain whether their vehicle is impacted by the Takata recalls, can contact their manufacturer’s website to search, by their vehicle identification number (VIN) to confirm whether their vehicle has an open recall or visit http://www.safercar.gov/Vehicle+Owners/NHTSA-statement-on-takata-air-bags.
