Chevrolet Shows Bigger and Bolder 2020 Silverado Heavy Duty Pickup
December 4, 2018
From the 1960s to the 1980s, when General Motors still made long haul Class 8 tractors, you pretty much knew when you were being tailgated by one of their big rigs. A huge, flat grille would fill your rear view mirror prompting both awe and fear. We’ll it seems that someone at GM styling also recalls those days and has transplanted that memory onto the all-new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty pickup. While the live reveal won’t happen until February, Chevy has released the first official photos and boy does the new truck look massive. The press release also says the new HD shares nothing outside besides the roof panel with the Silverado 1500, although the interior styling is likely to be less changed. As before there is a large power dome hood profile, and new fender steps have been added in front of the rear wheel housings.
Under the 2020 Silverado HD’s hood is a choice of two new powertrains: an all-new gasoline engine with direct injection mated to a six-speed transmission, or the Duramax Turbo-Diesel V-8, which delivers 910 lb-ft of torque through an all-new, Allison 10-speed transmission.
The 2020 Silverado HD also will offer all-new customer-focused trailering technology, significant increases in towing and payload capabilities and a host of technologies and features designed specifically for heavy-duty truck customers.
