Cadillac Escalade IQ Estimated at 450 Miles of Range
August 14, 2023Cadillac recently unveiled the 2025 Escalade IQ, an all-electric version of their full-size SUV capable of traveling a (Cadillac-estimated) 450 miles of range on a full charge.
The ‘Escalade’ is one of GM’s most recognizable namesakes, so it was inevitable that it too would evolve along with the electrifying times. The Escalade IQ is to be built on the group’s Ultium Platform, a modular EV architecture that has been used as the foundation for the GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV as well as Chevrolet’s Silverado EV pickup.
Those vehicles use relatively mammoth-sized batteries, and the all-electric Escalade is no exception. A 200 kWh battery is used to power two electric motors making up the vehicle’s all-wheel drive layout, giving a combined output of up to 750 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque. That’s in the “Velocity Max” setting; in “Normal” mode the motors put down 680 hp and 615 lb-ft, which seems like plenty to haul around the 224.3-inch utility.
Truly “full-sized,” the nearly 19-foot Escalade IQ rides on a 136.2-inch wheelbase, measuring 94.1-inches wide mirrors out, and standing 76.1-inches tall with a ground clearance of 6.9-inches. To put that in perspective, a 2023 Escalade measures 211.9-inches long on a 120.9-inch wheelbase, cruising along with 81.1-inches of width and 76.7-inches of height. So the Escalade IQ, while still in the same ballpark, has had a considerable growth spurt.
Maneuvering the IQ may not be as much of a chore as those numbers suggest, however, thanks to the implementation of four-wheel steering, said to reduce the vehicle’s turning diameter at lower speeds. It also grants an extra, diagonal dimension of movement, making parking a tad easier. This feature is equipped standard, joined by Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 and Adaptive Air Ride Suspension. One-Pedal Driving, a feature that allows drivers to progress by just operating the accelerator, will also make daily drives a bit easier.
Cadillac states the Ultium’s high-voltage architecture enables 800-volt DC fast charging, capable of recouping 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. The Escalade IQ will also be able to tow up to 8,000 lbs and complete 0-60 mph sprints in under 5 seconds.
The exterior design may show a little bit more modernization and EV-cues, but it still radiates big Escalade energy. It’s a little more aerodynamically conscious, judging by the photos, with more sweptback elements– especially in the rear where the glass is more aggressively slanted. And the whole thing rides on 24-inch wheels wrapped by 35-inch tires. The IQ certainly plays well into some of the design themes produced by forward marching electrification. Still, cover up the badge and it will likely come as no surprise to most anyone that it is, indeed, an Escalade.
And the very same can be said for the interior, which sports a tech-heavy focus but still maintains a certain level of American opulence. A lot of dashboard real estate is devoted to the 55-inch LED display; and this isn’t one of those deals where a number of screens make up the panel via one monolithic display. This is a true diagonally 55-inch display, taking up, again, just about the entire dash. Underneath that is another, smaller screen, with various controls projected. In the second row… more screens! They’re mounted on the seatbacks and, in the available ‘executive second row seating,’ there’s another screen on the center console. This is also a good time to mention that second-row legroom is pretty darn good at 41.3-inches, and third-row legroom isn’t half bad either at 30.1-inches. Trunk storage is only 23.7 cubic-inches, but with the third row down it jumps to 69.1 cu-ft and again to 119.2 cu-ft with both rearward rows folded. And there you have it– the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ. We’ll be looking forward to spending some time behind the wheel and the 55-inch display. In the meantime, check out our most recent Escalade outing– the loud, proud, supercharged Escalade V.
