BMW will be sharing more of their vision of the future. Their HoloActive Touch system will debut at the Consumer Electronics Show. BMW says its similar to a virtual touchscreen with a “free-floating display operated using finger gestures”. The Consumer Electronics Show will be held in Las Vegas next month.
McLaren is marking a milestone. The British car company has produced its 10,000th car from its McLaren Production Centre in Woking, England:a McLaren 570S. They’ve been building cars there for a little more than 5 years. The car will become part of the McLaren Heritage Collection. We recently thrashed around Roebling Road Raceway in the 570S. General Motors wants to see how autonomous cars handle winter weather. They’re testing autonomous Bolt EVs on public roads in Michigan. Earlier this year, GM started testing the hands-free cars in California and Arizona. More than 40 of the autonomous EVs have been roaming the roads in those two states.
There could be fewer secrets among car companies. Automotive News is reporting Toyota is considering selling complete powertrain technology to competitors. They quote Toshiyuki Mizushima as saying, "We want to change that to a system where we develop technology with our suppliers at an earlier stage ... so they can make that technology available to non-Toyota customers."
The check engine light on the dash triggers fears of big bills. One survey says if you’re behind the wheel of a Toyota, you’re less likely to have the problem. That’s the result of the 2016 CarMD® Vehicle Health Index™ Make & Model Reliability Rankings. The organization looked at the frequency of check engine light problems and the average repair cost to come up with their ranking. They say they gathered information from 4 million vehicles. Here’s the link to see how they stacked up: https://www.carmd.com/wp/vehicle-health-index-introduction/2016-carmd-manufacturer-vehicle-rankings/
