General Motors is adding more power to the demand for large trucks and SUV’s. They’re spending $40 Million to upgrade the Global Propulsion Systems plant in Spring Hill, TN. The investment means the plant will be able to produce more 5.3-liter V8 engines. That engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s one of the engine options available in the Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe and Suburban as well as the GMC Sierra.
The GM Spring Hill Manufacturing complex is the largest GM facility in North America. It’s well established as an engine producer. Since opening in 1990, the facility has produced more than 6 million vehicles and 4.5 million engines. The Spring Hill Global Propulsion Systems plant already produces three engines that provide the power for 13 of GM’s cars, trucks and crossovers.
