Big Bucks for a Rare Toyota
The first Toyota 2000GT sports car to ever touch American soil has been sold. This extremely rare vehicle, one of only 351 produced, was sold in the recent RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction for an eye-popping $825,000. Out of the 351 produced only about 53 of them made it to the U.S. making Toyota 2000GT chassis No. 10083 an extremely rare breed indeed.
This Toyota 2000GT features original parts, has never been fully restored and has only driven 42,000 miles. The 2000GT has been resprayed, the carbs rebuilt and the seller claims it’s just a well-cared-for vehicle. The 2000GT also has its original Yamaha twin-cam head high performance engine and is packing all of 150 horsepower. This rarity was originally sold in San Francisco where it remained for a while, then later sold to a Japanese collector who held onto it for 20 years.
All though the selling price for this vehicle is pretty steep it’s not the highest. A 1968 Bendix Yellow Toyota 2000GT was sold in May of 2013 for $1.5 million.
