The automotive world is focusing on Switzerland for the 87th Geneva International Motor Show.  Today kicked off the press days leading up to the show.  The winner of the “Car of the Year” Award 2017 is the Peugeot 3008.  Organizers say the show will feature 900 models including 148 world and European premiers.  The 87th Geneva International Motor Show opens to the public March 9-19, 2017.

There’s still interest in a merger between Fiat Chrysler and General Motors… at least by FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne.  Reuters quotes him telling reporters in Geneva, “I may shamelessly try knocking on the GM door again, or any door, if I thought it was a good thing to do for the business, without even blinking, I could."  His comments come one day after GM announced it’s selling its Opel/Vauxhall automotive operations to French automaker PSA Group.  Marchionne has tried in the past to strike a deal with GM.  He pointed out it may be even less likely now that GM is leaving Europe.

The gears will be shifting a little higher for Honda drivers.  Honda has launched global production of a new 10-speed automatic transmission.  They say it’s a first for front-wheel-drive vehicles.  The new transmission will be built in Georgia.  Buyers who choose the upper trims of the 2018 Honda Odyssey minivan will be the first to see how it works.  Honda plans to put it in light trucks and cars.
