A new engine and new transmission are giving the 2017 Ford F-150 better mileage.

Ford says the improvement is due to a new engine and new transmission.  The engine is a second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 375 horsepower.  That’s 10 more horse power over the previous generation engine.

The 10-speed automatic transmission also adds to the performance.  For the first time, Ford is using advanced materials and alloys instead of cast-iron for the gearbox.

The changes will give the 2017 F-150 4x2 an extra mile per gallon in all three EPA fuel economy label estimates.  The 2017 F-150 4x4 also sees a 1 mile per gallon in city and highway driving, and an extra 2 miles per gallon combined.
