2017 Chrysler Pacifica earns IIHS Top Safety Pick+
The Chrysler Pacifica earns IIHS top honors.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica a Top Safety Pick+ rating. According to IIHS standards, "to qualify for a 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. It also must have an available front crash prevention system that earns an advanced or superior rating."
The Pacifica earns "Good" ratings in all five crashworthiness tests, though its "Good" rating for the small overlap front crash test only applies to those made after August of 2016, after a structural change was made to the minivan.
The newest qualification, the front crash prevention system, impacts the difference between a Top Safety Pick and a Top Safety Pick+. Accoridng to IIHS, "the Pacifica is available with an optional front crash prevention system, which earns a superior rating. In IIHS track tests at 25 mph and 12 mph, the vehicle avoided collisions. The system also gets credit for a forward collision warning component that meets National Highway Traffic Safety Administration criteria."
