NACTOY Announces Nine Finalists for 2024 Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year

The nine finalists for the 2024 North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year (NACTOY) Awards were officially announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show media day, Thursday, November 16th.

Cutting right to the chase, NACTOY has nominated the Honda Accord, Hyundai IONIQ 6 and Toyota Prius/Prius Prime for this year’s Car of the Year; the Chevrolet Colorado, Chevrolet Silverado EV and the Ford Super Duty have been nominated for Truck of the Year; and the Genesis Electrified GV70, Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30 have progressed to the final round for Utility of the Year.

Looking at the nominees, you’ll notice that all three utilities are all-electric; conversely, only one nominee in each the truck and car categories is electric– those being the Chevrolet SIlverado EV and the Hyundai IONIQ 6.

“Electric vehicles again make up more than half of our finalists,” said NACTOY President Jeff Gilbert. “That shows how important they are to carmakers and how many more choices car buyers now have. But there is a lot of variety in this group, including a big work truck, a hybrid and a family sedan.”

According to NACTOY, these nine were selected from 52 eligible vehicles, narrowed down to the 25 Best of 2024 at the Detroit Auto Show in September. Vehicles were then driven and evaluated by 50 independent jurors at NACTOY’s Fall Comparison Drive in October. Following these events and today’s announcement, said jurors will cast their ballots before the close of the year, with the final three winners announced on January 4th, 2024, at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan.

Evaluation and voting is conducted on a basis of innovation, design, performance, driver satisfaction and value. Each vehicle is tested and considered with these tenets in mind; that said, each juror has their own way of interpreting these, scoring them in accordance to their beliefs. These jurors are respected automotive journalists from across the US and Canada– including our very own John Davis, a longstanding NACTOY member.
