Mercedes-AMG showcased the 2025 AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE during this weekend’s Formula 1 race in Shanghai.

The GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE will serve as AMG’s new flagship coupe once it arrives in dealerships later this year. Climbing up to flagship status is no easy feat, and here it’s been accomplished thanks, in part, to a total system output of 805 horsepower and 1,047 lb-ft of torque.

The headlining act is a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 engine, handcrafted and responsible for 603 horsepower and up to 627 lb-ft of torque on its own. It’s synced up to an AMG Electric Drive Unit, powered by a 6.1 kWh battery, providing that last bit of juice to get all 805 horses. The EDU, acting directly on the rear axle, is built with a 201-horsepower electric motor and an electrically shifted two-speed transmission (separate from the nine-speed automatic tethered to the engine), joined by a limited-slip rear differential. Featuring 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, if traction is lost on the rear wheels, power from the electric motor is sent up front for more grip.

Electric-only range is yet to be confirmed, but a 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds and a top track speed of 199 mph is enough to have us sold. Other standard features include active suspension, rear axle steering and various active aero elements. One such example is integrated into the underbody in front of the engine, reacting to the selected drive mode and lowering automatically at 50 mph. By lowering 1.6 inches, this element helps suck the car down onto the road and reduce front axle lift. More visible is the retractable rear spoiler, changing position depending on the conditions at hand. Carbon ceramic brakes, including six-piston front calipers and single-piston rears, are also standard. They’re sheathed behind a standard set of 20-inch AMG 10-spoke wheels, staggered and wrapped by 295/35R20 tires upfront and 305/35R20 tires in the rear.

As expected, the interior is the appropriate mix of performance and plush, designed with a 2+2 seating arrangement and plenty of Mercedes luxuries embedded within. The United States market can capitalize on an extended MANUFAKTUR Signature program, introduced with the 2025 AMG GT Coupe with more paint and interior options.

Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but we should know more when it arrives at U.S. dealers later this year.
