Hoonigan Releases Electrikhana 2; Final Drift Video with Ken Block
December 6, 2023Hoonigan is well known by car fans for their drift-happy, stunt-craving, adrenaline-pumping series of near-physics defying videos; and non-car types probably recognize the name from all those [HOONIGAN] bumper stickers and window decals slapped on the backs of passing enthusiast vehicles. Synonymous with the brand is the late Ken Block, who tragically passed in a snowmobile accident roughly one year ago.
Weeks before his passing, filming of what would be his final Hoonigan video was concluded. Electrikhana 2 is the sequel to Block’s 2022 outing of the same name, starring the Audi S1 Hoonitron in a new setting: Mexico City.
Following the filming of the first Electrikhana, Block and Audi worked together to improve the Audi S1 Hoonitron. According to Hoonigan, the collaboration resulted in reduced weight, improved drivability and simulated gear changes, as well as an interesting gimmick. This trick, as seen in the opening of the sequel, has the front and rear axles spin in opposite directions, creating a smoke screen of burnt rubber. Makes it hard to spot the new livery at first, but you can catch a better glimpse of it throughout the rest of Block’s incredible stunts. Underneath that body is a carbon-fiber chassis and two electric motors, providing a total system output of 500kW to the all-wheel drive system.
Although the project was filmed over a year ago, the project was shelved for understandable reasons. This final production serves as a quality entry into the Hoonigan saga, sure, but more importantly, it serves as a proper tribute to the legend that is Ken Block.
