General Motors has issued a recall for a number of General Motors vehicles powered by the 6.2-liter V8 gas engine, affecting approximately 598,000 U.S. models and additional units globally.

The recall, announced on April 24 and detailed by the NHTSA, pertains to 2021-2024 GM vehicles with the 6.2-liter V8, including the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV; the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban and Tahoe; and the GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL. The report claims that connecting rods and/or crankshafts in these units may have manufacturing defects, leading to potential engine damage and failure.

Letters are being sent to those impacted, expected to mail out on June 9, 2025. Owners will be able to take their units to dealerships where the engine will be inspected and, if required, repaired or replaced. Units that pass the dealership inspection will be filled with higher viscosity oil, have their oil filters and oil fill caps replaced, and have their owner’s manuals updated, all free of charge.
