2026 BMW iX: More Power, More Range
January 30, 2025The BMW iX is getting some buffs for the 2026 model year, including additional power and more range, as well as a new trim structure and a self-described “simplified” design language.
Buyers won’t need to wait long, as the 2026 iX will begin production this March at BMW’s Plant Dingolfing. All three trims– the xDrive45, xDrive60 and M70 xDrive– will be available at launch, arriving on lots sometime during 2025’s second quarter.
If you’re not familiar with BMW nomenclature, “xDrive” refers to an all-wheel-drive setup, which all iX models come standard with thanks to a pair of electric motors mounted forward and rear; but, how much power this duo puts to the pavement is trim-dependent. The xDrive45, for example, sees 402 horsepower, whereas the xDrive60 kicks things up to 536 horsepower. The M70 takes it a few corrals-worth of ponies further, bucking out 650 hp. Although the trims aren’t an exact match, comparisons can be made to the outgoing model; the 2025 iX xDrive50 saw 516 horsepower, while the M60 conjured 610. Recalibrated suspension supports these increases; the M70 packs some adaptive air suspension and electronically-controlled shocks with M-specified tuning.
Range has also been bolstered, with the xDrive45 looking at a BMW-estimated 312 miles. The xDrive60 can theoretically stretch out up to 340 miles, while the M70 sees a potential 302 miles. A new battery management system and battery cell technology provides the boost, as well as new inverter technology optimizing the flow of energy from pack to motor. The entry-level xDrive45’s battery has a usable capacity of 100.1 kWh; the xDrive60, 113.4 kWh; and the M70, 112.8 kWh.
That simplified styling still features a large, smooth rendition of BMW’s kidney grille, now with a new frame and pattern of diagonal lines replacing the diamond pattern. Similarly, the headlights now sport vertical daytime runners and indicators. The general profile remains the same, the iX’s flank sees a few tweaks, particularly near the bottom edge. Newly-available M Sport and M Sport Professional packages add some darkened exterior elements, including Shadowline lighting elements front and rear. Also available for the first time are M Multi-Function seats, said to improve lateral support. These are part of the M Sport treatment, as is the steering wheel, two-tone instrument panel and various cabin finishers.
Interested buyers can expect a starting price of $76,325 for the 2026 BMW iX xDrive45, which includes a $1,175 destination charge. The xDrive60 starts at $89,675, while the M70 xDrive passes the six-digit marker at $112,675.
