The debut of the Volkswagen Tayron, a new SUV for the European market, may at first seem unimportant to our American audience; however, this debut actually serves as a teaser trailer for the next-gen Tiguan, closing in fast for the 2025 model year.

According to Volkswagen, the 2025 Tiguan will utilize the same foundation as the long wheelbase Tayron. That said, the bodywork, powertrain options and equipment will, according to VW, differ from the incoming Tiguan. We’ll know for certain when the Tiguan is unveiled at this year’s LA Auto Show, but we’d hedge our bets that the Tayron gives us a fairly decent preview of what’s to come.

The Tayron is available as either a five- or seven-passenger configuration, to be sold with mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, gasoline and diesel powertrain options. At 189 inches long, the Tayron has a few inches over the current Tiguan’s 186 inches– growth that is expected to be mirrored in the 2025 model. Although the bodywork is claimed to be different, we’d be surprised if the illuminated VW badging and rear light bar element didn’t make it onto the U.S.-spec Tiguan. Inside, a 12.6-inch infotainment screen comes standard, along with digital instrumentation; again, two features we expect to see.

The curtain on the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan will be pulled back in at next month’s LA Auto Show. Stay tuned for our coverage of this inbound utility and everything else making its way onto the show floor.
