2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry is a Limited Edition Hybrid Hiker
February 20, 2025Jeep has been trying to convince people that plug-in hybrids are more than capable of taking on off-road duties. And by many accounts they’re succeeding, as their Wrangler 4xe has been wildly popular with buyers of their iconic seven-slot overlander, us also being big fans of the electrified Wrangler.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry is a new limited edition model further expanding the plug-in’s lineup, following the concept-turned-production 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Willys ‘41 Special Edition we reported on late last year. In this case, “limited edition” means 5,800 units for North America, available to order now for a total starting price of $66,185 with destination attached.
The Backcountry is based on the Sahara trim, so you can expect all the standard content from that $59,590 model to make its way here. The extra six-grand or so goes into more than just extra aesthetic flair, though these enhancements are arguably fly for a Jeep guy. First, a unique set of 20-inch wheels is wrapped by 275-wide General Grabber all-terrain tires, joined by a set of rock rails and steel bumpers. The front receives a single-loop grille guard and a TrailCam, and an array of interior auxiliary switches should make wiring up some additional lights or a winch that much simpler. A three-piece, body-colored hardtop, exclusive decals, and the Trailer Tow package round out the exterior enhancements.
Perhaps to spur buyers into actually taking their Wrangler Backcountry into the backcountry, standard interior equipment includes the Jeep Power Box accessory, Trails Offroad trail guides displayed via the 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system, and all-weather slush mats. The former two don’t need much explanation, but the rundown on the JPB is that it plugs directly into the 4xe’s charge port, supply energy to two 120-volt, 15-amp outputs, ideal for small appliances you may want to bring to a campsite or a prolonged overlanding session. And as long as you’re not disturbing your campsite neighbors, you can bump along to your favorite music through an Alpine nine-speaker audio system, beats streamed from your phone hooked up by the onboard WiFi.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry is available in all current colors, including the all-new ‘41 shade of green, a $595 option.
