The Ford Maverick is receiving its first major refresh since its 2021 reincarnation as a compact pickup truck, and we were invited to Detroit for all the details.

The 2025 model year will see the Maverick’s first mid-cycle update, which includes new style, more tech and the implementation of a hybrid all-wheel drive system. This hybrid AWD configuration was highly requested from owners, according to Ford, and it’s something we ourselves commented on in our original Road Test.

You may already be familiar with the Maverick’s hybrid system, as it was a key initial selling point when the Maverick was launched, and it has returned as the Maverick’s standard powertrain offering for 2025. It features the same 2.5-liter engine, still expected to produce a total 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque, delivered through an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT).Towing is now up to 4,000 lbs with the appropriate Towing Package added on. This also applies to Maverick’s powered by the returning 2.0-liter EcoBoost, rated at 238 horses (down from 2024’s 250 hp) and 277 lb-ft, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Advertised is a max payload of 1,500 lbs, achievable by front-wheel drive hybrids (1,400 on AWD hybrids) and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost– barring the off-road oriented Tremor, rated at 1,140 lbs.

Addressing more customer feedback is the implementation of wireless smartphone integration, projected onto a larger 13.2-inch touchscreen, mounted in all trims and paired to an 8-inch digital instrument panel. Also projected onto the center screen is the 360-Degree Camera, a new feature that helps drivers maneuver in tight corridors. Towing is improved in more ways than poundage; Ford is making their Pro Trailer Hitch Assist system, seen on their larger F-Series units, available here, along with additional towing tech. All Mavericks are also supported by Ford’s Co-Pilot360 driver safety and assistance suite, with standard features including emergency braking, lane keeping and auto high-beams.

Changes are, fortunately, not limited to inside the cabin and under the hood. Not to say the Maverick needed a gussying up, but the new grille and LED headlights, the latter appearing F-150 lite, are welcomed, as is the Eruption Green paint, making its way to the Maverick’s color palette for just one year. A new Black Package will come with its own style– as the name suggests, blacked out accents all across.
