2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is a Compact Street-Performance Truck
August 1, 2024The Ford Maverick is receiving a mid-cycle refresh for 2025, and with it comes a new trim: The Maverick Lobo, a street-performance version of the compact pickup.
So often we see special trim packages tailored to off-road adventures, but the Lobo is instead built for the streets. With an ethos derived from those lowered pickups of the 80’s and onwards, and backed by modern engineering, the Lobo attains this goal of on-pavement performance without upping the output of the 2.0-liter EcoBoost, instead focusing on handling, braking and power management.
For starters, specially-tuned shocks and steering point the Maverick more towards sporty, that suspension riding half an inch lower in the front and 1.12 inches lower in the rear. Behind the black 19-inch wheels are two-piston front brake calipers borrowed from the current Focus ST– yes, the ST sold in Europe and unfortunately absent from stateside dealers. Despite the nominal engine output, Ford saw fit to bolt on the larger radiator and fan setup from the Maverick’s newly acquired 4K towing package, as well as a transmission cooler. Torque delivered to the rear wheels passes through a twin-clutch rear drive unit; managing all 277 lb-ft on the autocross course is an exclusive Lobo drive mode, said to improve “cornering performance, grip, and stability, helping to minimize understeer,” also reducing the Maverick’s stability control intervention.
And when you’re not on the track you’ll be rolling in style– if that lowered truck aesthetic is your thing, of course. The Lobo is spearheaded by unique front end styling, flanked by a painted rear bumper. The interior, said to be partially inspired by graffiti, features a special overprint on the seats, and Grabber Blue and Electric Lime stitching.
Like the rest of the refreshed lineup, order books for the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo open up on August 1, arriving at dealers early next year and with pricing to be confirmed closer to that time.
