2025 Ford Bronco Stroppe Edition Celebrates Baja History
October 15, 2024Ford is celebrating another sector of their motorsports achievements with a new special edition model, this time turning their attention to their revived Bronco off-roader. The 2025 Ford Bronco Stroppe Special Edition isn’t an all-out Baja 1000 build, but it does celebrate the cars and people behind the Blue Oval’s victories and innovations behind them.
For those unsure of the name “Stroppe,” we’ll get to the history lesson soon enough. Starting with the here and now, this new Stroppe Edition Bronco is said to take the place of the Wildtrak grade, slotted near the top of the trim ladder. Sold exclusively in the two-door configuration, the Stroppe is supported by “High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension 3.0,” or “HOSS 3.0,” meeting the sand through 35-inch Goodyear Territory RT tires mounted onto 17-inch beadlock-ready wheels. Fox dampers are said to improve control in high-speed, off-road scenarios, and a Baja GOAT mode (“Goes Over Any Terrain) heightens capabilities further.
The Stroppe’s steps are hoofed by the Bronco’s 2.7-liter, twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, the standard offering on the Wildtrak but an available option over the 2.3-liter turbo-four found in other grades.
Back in the day, Stroppe’s color palette consisted of Calypso Coral, Wimbledon White and Astra Blue, three colors absent from Ford’s current mainstream swatches (though Wimbledon did make a comeback on the 60th anniversary Mustang). Instead, Ford has opted for Oxford White and Code Orange, the latter being used for the first time on a non-Raptor Bronco, contrasted by an Atlas Blue hardtop. Further deviations include a matte black hood to eliminate sun glare and a white grille. Code Orange accents are abundant, including the squared-off fenders, and the white/orange mix carries over to the interior, as does the Stroppe branding.
The name Stroppe is to Bronco as Shelby is to Mustang. Back in the day, those interested in an off-road race-ready Bronco turned to Bill Stroppe for a Baja-tuned machine, the man having won multiple races while navigating for Ford motorsports legend Parnelli Jones. In 1969, a Stroppe-prepared Bronco achieved the first outright win by a stock 4×4 at the Baja 1000, a feat still held to this day.
“Bill Stroppe not only established Bronco’s competition legacy at events like the Baja 1000 and NORRA Mexican 1000, but Stroppe Baja Broncos put his off-road knowhow on the road and helped establish Bronco with consumers,” Ford Archivist Ted Ryan said. “Today’s Bronco, with the G.O.A.T Modes and Sasquatch package, can trace its existence back to Bill Stroppe’s work.
Those interested in a 2025 Ford Bronco Stroppe Special Edition won;t have to wait long, as these units are expected to crawl onto dealer lots this January, price to be confirmed.
