2025 BMW M5 Touring is a 717 HP Station Wagon
August 15, 2024The U.S. is officially receiving a BMW M5 Touring for 2025, arriving late this year as a 717 horsepower station wagon.
That’s total system output, as is the 738 lb-ft of torque, derived from its M Hybrid powertrain. Composed of a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine and an electric motor tucked into the eight-speed transmission, the M5 Touring is expected to reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph with the optional M Driver’s package equipped.
Another advantage to electrified assistance is zero-emissions driving, which the M5 Touring can do for up to 25 miles on a full charge of its 14.8 kWh battery. Full-electric driving is possible up to 87 mph; after that, the gas engine will need to kick on to keep the party rolling. In either case, power meets pavement though 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, wrapped respectively with 285- and 295-wide tires.
As expected, a number of chassis and aero improvements further refine the M5 Touring’s edge. Specific to the M5 are more rigid powertrain mounts, bracing, and suspension tuning. Adaptive M Suspension comes standard, as do M Compound brakes, upgradable to carbon ceramics. A redesigned kidney grille, along with various air intakes, funnel air to the eight-cylinder engine and cooling elements. Different drive modes work in tandem with the rear-biased all-wheel-drive system and electronically controlled locking rear differential to keep the power down.
For those looking at the M5 Touring more as a luxury people hauler than a track-capable wagon, you’ll be unsurprised to read about its upscale cabin. BMW’s curved display is back, consisting of a 12.3-inch digital gauge unit and 14.9-inch infotainment screen; however, various graphics and readouts specific to M will be projected onto them. A head-up display is standard, as is BMW Operating System 8.5. Capable of seating five, the cabin is accentuated by ambient lighting, a panoramic roof and a 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
At $122,675 with destination, the M5 Touring will be no cheap thrill when it arrives stateside this fall.
