For the last week or so, the internet has been abuzz with rumors that the current R35 generation of GT-R will be meeting its production end after the 2025 model year. We can’t really comment on that; but, Nissan has unveiled two new special editions joining the stateside GT-R lineup for the 2024 model year, dubbed the T-Spec Takumi Edition and Skyline Edition.

These names probably sound familiar to you, with “T-Spec” being a recently revived trim of the GT-R and “Skyline” being tethered to the GT-R’s overseas origins. While this introduction doesn’t confirm any of the above rumors, it does support the hypothesis, considering Nissan would want the R35 to go out with a special edition bang.

Starting with the T-Spec, the name “Takumi” is not some off-the-wall “Initial D” reference; rather, in Japan, the term describes a master who has perfected their craft over years of work and dedication. Here, Takumi is a tribute to the master craftspeople who assemble the GT-R’s VR38DETT engine by hand. As such, the engine badge mounted on the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 will feature red-etched writing acknowledging their handiwork, joined by a gold VIN plate. Other exclusive marks include the Midnight Purple paint and Mori Green interior trim; and, like standard T-Spec models, it will come with NISMO carbon-ceramic brakes, gold-painted NISMO RAYS 20-inch wheels, wider front fenders and NISMO-tuned Vehicle Dynamic Control.

The Skyline Edition starts life as a GT-R Premium, then lacquered up in a special Bayside Blue paint– last seen on the 50th Anniversary GT-R and, before that, the R34 generation– and upholstered in a matching Sora Blue interior. Purely a cosmetic treatment, the Skyline doesn’t see any additional performance enhancements.

Pricing and availability will be announced at a later date, but Nissan has stated both models will arrive at select dealerships in the U.S. this summer and “in very limited numbers.”
