2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Evolves to Retain Best-Selling Status
November 20, 2024The Tiguan SUV is Volkswagen’s best-selling nameplate in the U.S., and an all-new 2025 model has arrived to fit in with the times and retain that status.
Not to say the outgoing model is outdated; however, the 2025 Tiguan takes things to the next level with more tech and a new look, backed by performance enhancements to boost both performance and efficiency. The new Tiguan will be available for public eyes to pry at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, beginning November 22.
Starting with the powertrain, the same 2.0-liter turbo-four has returned for this new iteration. The EA888 engine has been made stronger, now cranking out 201 horsepower, 17 HP more than the outgoing unit. Less seen in press materials for new SUVs is weight savings, but the Tiguan breaks away from that trend by boasting a slimming down of 170 pounds thanks to aluminum suspension components and high-strength steel used in the body structure. Less weight should equal better speed off the line and fuel economy, but we’ll wait until the official Road Test to know for certain.
The ‘25 Tiguan rides on Volkswagen’s MQB evo platform, wearing a new design; while the wheelbase is said to have grown, the rear overhang has been shortened. The overall vibes slot in perfectly with VW’s current design language, with prominent LED lighting elements, including illuminated logos and full-width light bars. The standard 17-inch wheels grow to 19s and even 20s on higher trims, and three new color options, Avocado Green Pearl, Sandstone Uni and Monterey Blue Pearl, have been added to the handful of swatches.
The cabin falls in line with current trends, which you can already infer means the presence of screens. The 12.9-inch infotainment screen is upgradable to a 15-inch unit, akin to the unit found in the ID. Buzz and ID. 4, and joined by a 10.25-inch digital gauge readout embedded into the dash, a departure from the steering column-mounted units found in the aforementioned models. Mounted to the column now is the gear selector, saving center console space. And on the console is a rotary dial control, located between the engine start/stop button and the electronic parking brake, used to control volume, select drive modes, and toggle between “Atmospheres”– think ambient lighting and audio presets that change the vibes depending on your mood.
Aside from the available head-up display, the 2025 Tiguan comes with VW’s IQ.Drive Level 2 driver assistance suite. Standard on all trims, things like blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking come included, putting safety on the Tiguan’s resume.
Unclear is the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan’s opening offer, as pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed. We’ll have more details closer to launch.
