Long Term Updates

Mileage: 5,500

Time is rapidly passing us by for our 2019 Porsche Macan S. Or maybe that’s just us quickly passing everything, in this 348-horsepower sports car in crossover clothing.

Is it the most practical utility you can buy? No, but the list of SUVs that deliver anything close to the Macan’s connected driving experience is a real short one.

We’re closing in on 4-months of drive time, and mileage sits at 5,500; and fuel economy has climbed to a very decent 22.4 miles-per-gallon of high test.

And while we always praise the fun-to-drive aspects, let’s not overlook the very comfortable and tech-savvy interior; highlighted by a new for ’19 10.9-inch touchscreen. In everyday use, a comfy environment and easy-to-use tech are supremely important when traffic moves at a crawl.

Mileage: 5,000

Mostly commuting duty this time around for this 2019 Porsche Macan S, as we’ve added just 1,000-miles onto the tally from last report; hitting 5,000-miles in 3-months’ time. Still, fuel economy remains consistent, at 21.4 miles-per-gallon.

“As driving enthusiasts, we love the way the Porsche Macan S handles. It’s a fun vehicle to drive on back roads. You could argue that the tight suspension and sharp steering make it a bit sensitive on laid-back highway drives, but for me it’s totally fair trade-off. “

So, if you want a sports car, but need an all-wheel-drive SUV for practical reasons; this Porsche Macan S with its 348–horsepower turbo V6 is a great place to start.

Mileage: 4,000

Extended time in this 2019 Porsche Macan S has confirmed something entirely; that it’s a 911 5-door hatchback with some added ground clearance.

Yea OK, we know that’s not technically true, as it shares a lot more with Audi’s utilities than the 911; but it sure feels like their iconic sport coupe when you’re behind the wheel.

That’s due in large part to a completely revised suspension for 2019. This Macan is still in its first generation that debuted for 2015; but this year, they upgraded some steel components to aluminum, to reduce unsprung mass, and added new anti-roll bars.

The new 348-horsepower turbo V6 continues to deliver its a wealth of power fairly responsibly, as mileage is up to 21.4 miles-per-gallon over our initial 4,000-miles of driving.

This Porsche has been in our possession for only 2-months now, but already it has become a very popular member of the fleet.

Mileage: 6,500

Since the last report on this 2019 Porsche Macan S, we’ve tacked on another 1,000-miles or so; and this German tiger continues to thrill. Not only with its athleticism, but also with its smooth and comfortable ride, and easy to use tech.

“Winter is the time of year when the daily commute really becomes a slog but this Macan has done wonders for our morale. The effortless power and dynamic handling might actually be a cure for seasonal affective disorder.”

Fuel mileage is sitting at 21.3 miles-per-gallon; that may not be so great for a family car, but we feel that it’s more than respectable for a high performance oriented SUV, with 348-horsepower of turbocharged V6.

And making sure we can use as much of that power as possible, regardless of the conditions; we recently fitted the Macan with a new set of winter tires. Not only have they helped keep traction in what little snow we have had, but the softer compound makes casual drives even more comfortable.

Mileage: 1,300

Our long term fleet got a whole lot more exciting recently with the arrival of this 2019 Porsche Macan S.

Porsche obsesses over driving. Every vehicle they make – car or SUV – has to drive like a Porsche and that’s absolutely the case with this Macan S. Steering is well-weighted and has a lot of feel. The suspension is somehow firm and comfortable at the same time and that right there is just classic Porsche.

The Macan has been in our fleet for only a month so far, but we’ve added a quick 1,300 miles, and averaged 20.4 miles-per-gallon of premium while doing it.

The Macan S boasts quite a few upgrades over the standard Macan, including 19-inch wheels, unique exterior trim, dual exhaust, bigger brakes; and of course our favorite, the 348–horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, no tiny turbo in this small ute!

Mileage: 12,000

Back to back road trips to our winter testing grounds in Savannah, Georgia and to real winter in Chicago for the Auto Show, added some major miles to our 2019 Porsche Macan S. 5,600 to be exact, bringing the current tally to 12,000-miles in 6-months.

What new points have all of those highway miles revealed? Well, the Macan is an excellent long hauler. There’s plenty of room for both people and cargo, as well as seats with enough comfort to go the distance, even if you’re stuck in the back.

Lots of power at a moment’s notice for shooting gaps in traffic with ease, just reaffirmed what we already knew about our Macan S’ 348–horsepower turbo V6. It’s adequately efficient as well, with our average at 21.7 miles-per-gallon so far.

But, all of that seat time also revealed that some minor things in the cabin, like the sun visors for example, don’t quite measure up to this car’s $60,000-plus price tag.

While things are slowly but surely getting back to normal in our country, the Porsche Macan soldiers on doing what it’s been doing since it arrived in our long-term fleet 8-months ago, delivering the goods with sports car thrills, all with room to spare for a growing family and their treasures.

“This Macan has a tendency to take us the long way around when running errands. It grips and rips on our Maryland back roads like a sport coupe, not a crossover, which is great until you remember that you have a week’s worth of groceries that do not share the same levels of lateral grip.”

The Macan was busier than most of our fleet during the pandemic, taking viewers on a virtual scenic drive to Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

So far, the 348-horsepower 3.0-liter turbo-6 has delivered 21.5 miles-per-gallon; and can deliver us to 60 in as little as 4.6-seconds if we’re in a real hurry. But, we’re definitely not in a rush to see this Macan leave the fleet.

Mileage: 18,735

Now, some long-terms are harder to say goodbye to than others; and without a doubt, bidding adieu to this 2019 Porsche Macan S was not easy.

“It’s going to be tough living without this Macan S on our long term lot. The way the engine and suspension go from sedate to sinister at a moment’s notice is what makes it such an enjoyable daily driver.”

That engine is a 348-horsepower turbocharged V6, and the suspension part of that equation is the upgraded setup that arrived for 2019, aided by Porsche’s Active Suspension Management, which truly offers unique personalities for each of its drive modes.

Not everyone on our staff is in love with the 911-inspired rounded hatchback exterior vibe, but all were fans of the interior, showcasing luxury and high tech in equal measures.

In our possession for a full 12-months, we drove a total of 18,735-miles, and averaged a great 22.1 miles-per-gallon.

And greatness truly sums up our time with the Porsche Macan S.
