Clean Cities: Lexington, KY Electric Buses
Our success story this week takes us to Lexington, Kentucky…where all-electric buses have just hit the streets. Lextran, the city’s transportation authority, brought in CNG buses in 2016…and is continuing to diversify their fleet, adding 5 all-electric buses this past January. It was an easy environmental decision to make, as the buses produce zero tailpipe emissions.
CARRIE BUTLER: “And when I first looked at the data to compare diesel, CNG, and our electric Proterra buses, I went back and said is this right? It’s zero for all of the emissions we track here in Kentucky.”
JOHN DAVIS: To power up, the buses only need to make a swift stop at an overhead quick charge station, and they’re ready to go in less than 10 minutes. With help from partners like the Kentucky Clean Fuels Coalition, it looks like things will only be getting greener in the bluegrass state.
