Sooner or later we’re all stranded beside the road with a broken car or in a minor fender bender.  Some of the things that you want to do to make sure that you’re safe: get the car off the road as far as possible.

Then you need to be seen. First, personally, that means you need to wear a vest that glows and makes you a lot more visible. But you want the car visible, too, because you don’t want people to run into it. So we have some things from Safety Bright. Here we have flashing arrows that direct oncoming traffic to the safe side of your vehicle.

Up here we have a Safety Puck.  This is a unit that has a series of flashing L-E-D’s that are very bright, they flash in a variety of patterns, and they really attract attention.

Now here’s something. This is a Safety Stick. It has a number of features in it. Number one, it has flashing L-E-D’s that make it very visible and it can be attached to the vehicle with a magnet on the end.

Also it has a flashlight built into the end of it, very bright. It has a weighted metal pointer that is good for breaking glass. You just hit the glass on the side of the car and the glass shatters. And if you’re stranded in the car and the seatbelt is jammed, this will cut through the seatbelt to get you out of the car.  Pretty clever Something else you might want to consider, very inexpensive, are glow sticks.  You snap them, shake them and you’ve got light for several minutes.

Docu-Dent is an interesting set of tools. It has inside all of the things that you need to collect the necessary information when you have a minor accident. Has a disposable camera, measuring ruler, whistle, paperwork, pen - all of it. You should have it in the glove box of each one of your cars.  But a lot of us overlook the obvious and the obvious is right here: a fully charged cell phone. Combine that with the number to your roadside assistance or towing club and that will get you out of most any jam that you’re going to be involved in.
