Liddy
Last year we did some interesting modifications to a truck that belongs to a good friend of mine. He agreed to come back and give us an update on it. So here he is, G. Gordon Liddy.
Liddy: Hey, Pat. How are you?
Goss: I’m doing great.
Liddy: That’s wonderful.
Goss: Hey, first, before we go to your vehicle, what do you think of this? This is the new Hummer 2, H2.
Liddy: It’s beautiful. I did a test for an automotive magazine of the original civilian Hummer, and this has like two times the interior space. It’s really a very impressive vehicle. I wish I had one.
Goss: Yeah. Well, all it needs is your Duramax diesel.
Liddy: Yeah, and my 52,000. There you go.
Goss: (Laughter) All right. One of the things that we did to your truck, you installed a bypass oil filter.
Liddy: Yes, and that has enabled me using marine diesel oil that is synthetic, to have a drain interval of 15,000 miles. Now there’s 13,000 miles on the oil on that dipstick that just came out of there, and normally diesel oil will really stain your fingers. I noticed that won’t at all.
Goss: Yeah, that looks like practically new oil, and typically diesel oil is going to turn coal black in a matter of a few hundred or a couple thousand miles at most.
Liddy: Right. Well, this is filtering down to .03 micron. It’s just amazing. I change this filter element every 15,000 miles and I dump the oil at that time, and it’s a great money saver.
Goss: And these can be used on gas or diesel engines.
Liddy: Absolutely, absolutely.
Goss: And I take it you’d recommend one.
Liddy: I would certainly do that based on the performance of this thing in my Duramax diesel truck, absolutely.
Goss: Okay. Now, we also put in a set of Sylvania HID headlamps. What do you think of those?
Liddy: They are wonderful. They have a lighting pattern that is very close to the front of the truck and very wide. I’ve never seen one like it. It’s also very bright and intense, and I have people coming up to me in gas stations saying, ‘‘Where can I get those?’’ And I said, ‘‘Well, I got them from Pat Goss on MotorWeek.’’ And their face falls and they say, ‘‘But I don’t know Pat Goss. I can’t go to MotorWeek.’’ I say, ‘‘Well, you better call him and ask him where he got them.’’ But they are really good, really, really good.
Goss: Good. And you’d recommend those, too.
Liddy: I would recommend them in a hot minute, certainly would.
Goss: Great. Gordon, thank you so much for coming back and visiting us.
Liddy: Pat, it was my pleasure. Anytime, Buddy.
Goss: Take care.
Liddy: You bet.
