One of the biggest concerns around vehicles of any type these days is safety, and that’s especially true when it comes to children. And one of the things that I find particularly offensive is people who go out and buy their child safety seat by lowest bidder. You want to keep your children safe, and that means you want a good, high quality safety seat. Well, Recaro has been famous for years for their racing seats. Now they’re building child safety seats and they’re employing a lot of the technology that they’ve discovered in their racing applications.

This is an example of one of their seats, and if you look at it, it has a foot rest so that you can adjust it to keep the child’s knees from being bent over the edge of the seat for hours on end. The bolsters are adjustable, the height of the back is adjustable. It’s made with a really sturdy aluminum frame for safety, and it has special provisions to make it buckle into the car very safely as well. It’s something you should look for. It is a great safety device.

And speaking of safety, one of the other issues in any vehicle is seeing what’s going on in the back and behind the vehicle. And to solve that problem, we turned to Rostra, more specifically the Rostra RearSight system with their optional baby cam. This system uses two cameras: one on the back of the vehicle to see what’s behind you when you back it up; the other inside the vehicle to see what’s happening in the rear seats. It’s a pretty clever outfit.

It has a monitor built right into the face of the mirror, control buttons so that you can control which camera you’re viewing. It can also be set up so that it automatically goes into the reverse camera when you put the transmission into reverse gear. It works well.

It requires removing the original mirror and replacing it with this one which is slightly larger. But there is a drawback here. This requires that you have a reasonable knowledge of electrical components and how the inside of the car gets taken apart and so on, because you have to feed wires through the head liner and you have to wire into the vehicle’s wire harness. I’d recommend that you have it professionally installed. Both of these are very good safety devices and you’ll be thankful that you have them.
