While those lucky people in the Chevrolet commercials have been enjoying the Silverado EV for years now, this is the first time we’ve actually been able to join the fun, with some seat time in the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, specifically the Work Truck version which boasts up to 450-miles of range and will pull 10,000-lbs. of trailer.

“I’m no stranger to GM’s Ultium platform, having driven a multiple Hummer EVs and Cadillacs at this point, but this is the first time in the Silverado EV version and first time doing a lot of towing, and wow, pulling this kind of weight with an EV is a unique experience, smooth, quiet, instant power, no harsh downshifts or uphill struggles.”

Now, range is clearly affected when pulling that kind of weight, but not as much as you’d think, and standard 350-kW charging capacity can get you back on the road quickly.

This 4WT is the first Silverado EV Chevrolet will start delivering, soon to be followed by a more affordable 3WT and of course the 754-horsepower RST, and even Trail Boss versions down the line.

For now, the 4WT packs 510-horsepower with standard 4-wheel-drive; Crew Cab only, with 6-foot bed. No mid-gate flexibility, but the interior is built to be abused, plus there’s plenty of sensible storage with lots of places to plug in, including a big configurable space up front. All for a starting price around $78,000.

We’ll have plenty more on the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV soon, right here on MotorWeek.
