In one of the more ironic turns of the wheel we’ve seen; Hummer is back, but not as a gas-guzzling target of eco-warriors, now it’s a full-EV pickup truck under the GMC umbrella.  

The first vehicle to feature GM’s new 3-motor Ultium Drive system, the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 puts 1,000-horsepower and 11,500 lbs-ft. of torque to the pavement.  Take that diesels!  

It’s expected to have a 350-mile range; with 800-volt 350-kW DC fast charging to get you back on the road quickly, adding 100-miles of range for every 10-minutes on charge. 

Jessica Ray: The GMC Hummer EV will also have latest version of Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driver assistance system with over 200,000-miles of supported roads and a new automatic lane changing feature. We’ve only seen Super Cruise on Cadillacs so far, but GM will be expanding the use it across all of its brands so it certainly makes sense that it will be available in the new Hummer."

A single front motor sends power to the front wheels, while each rear wheel gets its own power plant.  

Unique features include Watts to Freedom which delivers max acceleration for 3.0-second 0-60s, CrabWalk 4-wheel steering that allows you to steer all-4 wheels in the same direction to sidestep hazards on the trail, and Extract mode which lifts the suspension by 6-inches.  

Brian Robinson: “The electric powertrain allows the Hummer EV to do some pretty cool things for off-road, like the Crabwalk feature, and of course the 6-inches of lift; plus it comes with 35s standard, with the ability to upgrade to 37s. Now all it needs is a V8. Well, actually I guess it doesn’t need that. Man, I can’t wait to drive it!" 

Somehow it looks exactly like you’d expect an electric Hummer truck to look like, both inside and out; the Infinity Roof, with transparent removable panels, is just icing on this rugged beefcake.

2022 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1s will arrive next fall, with a price tag of just over $112,000.  But, 3 additional versions are coming over the next few years; and ultimately the base price will be under $80,000.
